Sweet Peas are a really easy flower to grow. They are undemanding and pretty well disease free, but like all plants they will benefit from good treatment. Matucana is an old-fashioned type, with deep purple and red flowers with a good tolerance to the summer heat, making it a good patio addition. An interesting fact about this variety is that it was originally found in Peru around 1543.,Seed Count: 20,WHEN TO SOW September to April WHERE TO SOW September sowings in flowering site 2cm (1"") deep. Later sowings in pots, five seeds in each. October and November sowings in a cold frame. January sowings in an unheated glasshouse. March sowings in a cold frame. April sowings direct in flowering site. WHAT TO DO NEXT Glasshouse raised seedlings should be hardened off during March. Plant out pot grown seedlings in the flowering site 15cm (6"") apart in April.
