Nothing adds flavour to cooked dishes and salads so simply as freshly picked herbs from your garden. Chives have a mild onion flavour in both the leaves and the edible flowers, making it one of the most popular of herbs. Cut leaves about 2cm from ground level. It grows to a height of about 30cm (12""). It can be added to salads, cooked dishes or potato salads to add a mild onion flavoured edge.,Seed Count: 300,SOW OUTSIDE In spring, not too thickly, in shallow drills. Cover with fine soil and water well. Prefers a rich garden soil in sun or half shade. HARVEST Cut the green stalks at any time once the plant is established. To ensure continuous cropping, do not cut lower than 5cm above the soil USES Chives are of great use in a both the vegetable and flower garden. The whole plant can be eaten from the bulbs to flowers, alternatively the flowers can be left to produce beautiful small purple flowers. Chives make a great addition to omelettes, salads, sandwiches, and flavoured butters. The flower can be used sprinkled on salads. Chives can be added to a bottle of vinegar and left for 5 to 7 days to produce a chive vinegar.
